Boulder County Fast-Tracks Code Changes for 4 Mile Fire Victims

A bureaucratic process that can sometime take years has been boiled down to just over 6 weeks by Boulder County in generating a draft set of code amendments to govern the rebuilding process for victims of September's devastating Fourmile Fire west of Boulder.  Included changes to the code for fire victims looking to rebuild include extending the deadline to apply to rebuild from 6 months to 2 years, allowing for a small (10% or 300 SF) expansion of the rebuilt structure and allowing on-site temporary housing while rebuilding.

However, the current green building and energy efficiency rules (collectively known as BuildSmart) will still apply to any rebuilt homes, though hardship waivers might be available depending on the situation.
