If you own a home or a commercial building anywhere in Boulder County (other than the town of Ward) you are eligible for the ClimateSmart Loan Program, which came to be after voters approved Ballot Issue 1A in November 2008. In a nutshell, owners of residential and commercial properties in Boulder County (except Ward) can apply for a loan to fully finance the implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures. This includes insulation, solar, windows, high-efficiency furnaces, and more. Click here for a document outlining all of the measures eligible for funding.
The loan will be repaid through a special assessment on your property's property tax statement -- this means that the loan stays with the property, it doesn't follow you if you sell your home or business and move. The first $28 million of the $40 million total authorized for the program is aimed at the residential sector and that program is kicking off now. The program to loan out the remaining $12 million for businesses will be launched in fall 2008.
In order to be eligible for the program, homeowners MUST attend a ClimateSmart Loan workshop during the month of March. There are over a dozen of these workshops happening all over the county starting March 9 and ending March 31. Click here for the schedule of workshops. To attend a workshop you must first register; fill out the registration form here.
